Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop, Thursday, March 8 - Lakeville, with Kris Koestner
Centering Prayer is a surrender form of meditation, popularized in our time by Father Thomas Keating, a Trappist monk. Some types of meditation, such as mindfulness meditation, focus your concentration or attention to the present moment. Centering prayer, a Christian form of meditation, instead works with your intention, which is to be totally open to the Divine. It is often called the prayer of no expectation in that you can’t fail as long as you “do your time,” so to speak. Workshop leader, Kris Koestner, says she was first drawn to centering prayer because it is a surrender method and, “Since I'm not very good at surrendering, I figured this was the practice for me! After six years of doing centering prayer regularly, I can honestly say that it has changed my life. I've become a calmer, more loving and peaceful person. When I started, I was hungry for an experience of God. I'm still hungry, but I’m also being fed.” This two-hour workshop will introduce you to the method of centering prayer, give some tips on handling common pitfalls as you develop your own practice, and offer an opportunity to experience two short periods of centering prayer. Depending on the group’s wishes, follow-up sessions may be offered down the road. Click here to save your spot!
