Dr. Allyn's Bio

Dr. Allyn says she has been lucky enough to work in the field of psychology for over 12 years, providing services with diverse clientele in a broad range of settings and regions in the United States. Raised in Minnesota, she received an undergraduate degree from Williams College in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. She then promptly did what any plucky graduate of a liberal arts school would do: parlayed her political science degree into work as a reporter for a San Francisco television station. Somehow, logic aside, this led her to graduate school in clinical psychology.

After earning a Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco, she continued training at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and received her doctorate in 2005. She spent several years in Salt Lake City focusing on psychotherapy, psychological testing, teaching as a professor, and becoming certified as a yoga instructor at the 500-hour level with Dana Baptiste. Her specialty areas include anxiety, depression, yoga-psychotherapy, relationship/intimacy problems, stress management, sleep disorders, addiction, trauma/loss, and emotional eating. Rather than subscribing to a formula, she blends Western and Eastern philosophies and integrates mind and body to tailor treatment to your needs.

Dr. Allyn says her professional and personal experience as a psychologist, yoga instructor, and lifelong athlete have strengthened her ability to help others. Her clients remark about how approachable, warm and authentic they find her, leading to a relationship of trust and teamwork. “I am dedicated to promoting compassion, balance, and mindfulness as a source of healing for my clients,” Dr. Allyn. “My ultimate message is for you to find your own way in this often chaotic world. When not spreading this message, I divide my time between the running trails and the yoga mat.”
