Frequently Asked Questions About Licensing
How do I get started?
The first step is to fill out the Request More Info Form and one of the partners will contact you.
How much does it cost?
There is no upfront or ongoing license fee. Costs will vary depending on size of Center, marketing, business services, real estate chosen, etc.
What is the difference between a franchise and a license?
While all franchise agreements are also licensing agreements, not all licensing agreements are franchises. Typically, a license is for a shorter term, has a non-royalty fee structure, with less oversight and control by the licensor.
How long are the license contracts?
The initial agreement is between three and five years, with an annual renewal clause. With the substantial investment in owning a center, and lease commitments, the relationship is expected to be long term.
What are the advantages of licensing versus just starting my own center?
Having the business model and knowledge of experienced partners is invaluable. Licensees receive support throughout the process leading up to opening as well as ongoing support, training and leadership. You leverage your investment of time and money.
How big are the wellness centers?
Centers typically range from 4,600 square feet on a single level, to 5,500 square feet on one level or in a two-story space. For small markets, Green Lotus offers a smaller footprint of 1,800-2,500 square feet on one level.
How many yoga studios are in each center?
Two studios and a classroom if space allows. The smaller footprint includes a single, large studio.
Do I have to be a yoga teacher to license a Green Lotus?
No. An interest and passion for wellness, as well as an expertise in one of the healing modalities offered, is recommended. Having an experienced yoga professional on staff to manage that aspect of the business will be required.
What kinds of wellness modalities would a licensee be required to have?
Yoga, massage, acupuncture, holistic health, and nutrition are the cornerstones of our centers. Additional modalities in the areas of chiropractic, energy healing, skin care, and counseling are encouraged.
What kinds of services would not be approved for a Green Lotus license?
If a service is in line with our mission, Green Lotus is open to having it offered. Some services may not be a good fit, such as certain non-natural treatments or medical procedures that don't fit the mission.
What is the average length of time to open after being accepted?
Depending on real estate, it can take from six months to a year from the start of the process to opening.
Will you consider a partnership as a licensee?
While it is not our model to be in partnership with our licensees, certain locations may be of interest.
What happens if I don't renew the license?
You would no longer have the right or access to the intellectual property, name, and business model. There are non-compete terms in the license agreement that would be triggered..
How many licensees do you currently have?
Our first licensee opened in Eden Prairie, MN in 2015. Apple Valley opened in 2020. There are currently two licensed locations.
