All-Level ClassesLevel: All This practical class systematically breaks down poses step-by-step so that students experience "aha" and "I GET it" moments. Classes emphasize standing postures to build awareness and stamina and also include a set number of seated, balance, back-bending, forward-folding, and hip-opening poses and how use of breath supports our deepening practice. Alignment class rewards beginning students by creating self-confidence as they learn essential poses. It also challenges and rewards intermediate and advanced students by encouraging "beginner's mind" as they re-master these essential poses in a supportive classroom that leaves everyone's bodies, minds, and spirits in better condition. Level: All Bring your body and mind into a state of harmony and balance with this softly flowing yoga class combined with Qi Gong (Tai Chi). Class begins with Qi Gong, moves through gentle sun salutations, hatha poses, standing balance, more Qi Gong, then relaxation. This class is the perfect way to leave the stress of your week behind; you will leave feeling centered and calm. Level: All This is a FREE yoga class open to everyone who wishes to explore the benefits that yoga has to offer. Beginners to advanced yogis are welcome. Practice will combine breath work, meditation, and a series of poses to broaden physical and emotional levels of awareness. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 with proceeds benefiting a local charity to be named each month. In lieu of or in addition to a monetary donation, students may choose to offer a non-perishable food item to support our food shelves. Dynamic Flow Gentle Yoga Hatha Yoga Level: All Hot Power Fusion captures the essence of the traditional hot yoga class by combining 26 static postures with the movement and grace of other Hatha sequences commonly found in yoga classes. This class is considered shoulder friendly and great for beginners as well as experienced students. Students will receive the benefits of a Hot Yoga class with further hip- opening, upper-body and core strengthening benefits. Level: All Popular all-levels class incorporating a series of 26 static poses practiced in a precise order in a heated room. This practice detoxifies the body while improving strength, flexibility and balance. Bring a towel, water, and the ability to laugh. Kundalini Yoga Kundalini Yoga, "the yoga of awareness", is a style of yoga that incorporates kriyas (sets of exercises), energetic breathing techniques, meditation, and chanting as taught by Yogi Bhajan who brought this unique style of yoga to the west. Sometimes referred to as 3HO style after the organization that Yogi Bhajan founded, Kundalini yoga is a scientific energetic technology designed to balance the nervous system, remove energetic blocks, and ground the practitioner. It builds strength and untaps the energy located at the base of the spine. This class will raise your energy level, increase awareness, and give you tools to help you live more consciously now. Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates more than 80 years ago and has created a worldwide following with 11 million people practicing as of 2005. This method of conditioning develops core abdominal strength; flexibility, correct posture and alignment, balance, coordination, increased range of motion, body awareness, and enhanced circulation. This mat class breaks down the fundamental principles and exercises of the Pilates technique and shows you how to adapt and incorporate them into your regular exercise routine. Because Joseph Pilates studied Yoga when developing Pilates, there are many similarities between the two practices. The class will adhere to the classical Pilates format, and standing Pilates also will be introduced. Bring a mat. No prior experience necessary. This is a drop-in class and regular Green Lotus packages can be used to attend Pilates. Level: All This class uses the fundamental principles of Pilates as a foundation, and has been modified to best meet the needs of our seniors. Focus is placed on balance, range of motion, flexibility, and core strength. Students use chairs for this class, so no need to worry about getting onto the floor.
Level: All A special program designed for expectant mothers. This 60-minute class gently guides students through yoga poses and breath work that helps to prepare body, mind and spirit for the wonders of childbirth. Prenatal yoga will benefit women though all stages of pregnancy by helping to relieve the physical and emotional discomforts that can occur during this time of profound growth and change. Conducted in the serene atmosphere of our studio, this program will help strengthen the uterus and pelvic muscles, improve circulation, aid in digestion, exercise the spine, build strength, and increase overall comfort while preparing the body for childbirth. The prenatal class is offered at a special rate of $75 for a 6 class package. Level: All Sleeping is different from resting, and our bodies require both. Rest provides the body an opportunity to renew and heal, and many studies have proved the physical and emotional benefits of rest. Restorative yoga poses, which are fully supported by blankets, blocks, bolsters, and other props, help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely without succumbing to sleep by triggering the parasympathetic nervous system (the opposite of the fight-or-flight sympathetic nervous system). During deep relaxation, the body's organ systems are benefited. Some of the measurable results of deep relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure, serum triglycerides and blood sugar levels in the blood, the increase of the "good cholesterol" levels, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination, the reduction of muscle tension, insomnia, and generalized fatigue. Level: All Yin Yoga provides a balance to more active - or yang - styles of yoga such as vinyasa, fusion, or Hatha because it asks the body to release muscles away from the bones so that connective tissue can be stretched. As the body's ligaments, fascia, tendons, and other connective tissues stretch, the joints themselves are released and "opened". In this quiet 75-minute practice, students move through a series of long-held seated or reclining poses, exploring the internal or subtle body and observing the mind's reactions and thoughts. Serene and contemplative, Yin Yoga actually increases flexibility, improves the health of the joints, restores the flow of energy throughout the body, and prepares the body for the return to more vigorous (yang) activities. Level: All This class was created by Green Lotus students who are survivors and yoginis and by our teaching staff. Poses have been selected and then specially modified to accommodate the after-effects of cancer and its treatment. More time is spent in guided meditation, breathing exercises, and supported poses than in a traditional Hatha class. However, poses also have been modified to allow students to begin to rebuild their strength and flexibility. $5 drop-in fee for all. Level: All Zumba creates a party-like atmosphere that is designed for everyone, at any fitness level- no dance experience required! Zumba has brought joy and passion to more than 12 million people around the world. High energy international music and Latin-inspired dance moves makes this a class that is more like a party than a workout. Get you body and soul moving with this easy-to-follow dance fitness program!
Level 1, 2 and 3 ClassesTai chi is often described as "meditation in motion" because it promotes serenity through gentle movements, connecting the mind and body. Originally developed in China as a form of self-defense, tai chi is a graceful form of exercise that has existed for some 2,000 years. Practiced regularly, tai chi can help you reduce stress and enjoy other health benefits. Tai chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. To do tai chi, you perform a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner. Each posture flows into the next without pausing. Anyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can practice tai chi. It doesn't take physical prowess. Rather, tai chi emphasizes technique over strength. Vinyasa I Yoga Level: 2 This sun salutation-based class focuses on breath-connected movements for the first half of the class. Sequences are designed to challenge the body, stretch the muscles, and increase the sweat and cleansing factors in a 90-degree room. Includes arm balances, inversions, backbends, and other advanced poses. Vinyasa II juices cardio, tones and strengthens muscles, builds bone density, improves joint health, flexibility, and balance. Some Vinyasa I experience is recommended. Bringing a towel to class is recommended. |
