Psychotherapy & Therapeutic Counseling

Shelly has worked in the mental health field as a psychotherapist since 2007. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Augsburg College and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. Before joining the team at Green Lotus, Shelly worked in a small private practice and then a large agency, providing mental-health care to both individuals and groups. She describes the opportunity to practice in an integrative setting like Green Lotus as her dream job.

Shelly believes that the relationship between therapist and client is key, and she considers it a privilege to work with her clients and earn their trust. A life fully lived includes both pleasant and unpleasant emotions and experiences, many beyond our control or sphere of influence, and how we navigate - even allow, welcome, and embrace those emotions and experiences - is life-defining. Shelly focuses on her client's strengths and on helping them to identify their goals and values and, ultimately, how to build their unique life, a life that is truly and wholly worth living.

Therapeutic techniques Shelly uses with her clients and for which she has received training include but are not limited to Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
